The dead come to visit the graves every time, reading, to the rhythm of our footsteps beneath the earth, our names— as though they were headstones— and they ask: why do these graves walk?

Everything we know about death was composed by absence, and by fear. I wonder— what does death know of us, beyond our final breath?

I went to visit my grandmother's grave, but she was not there. Her neighbor in the grave told me she had gone off to fill the water dish for the birds, to buy them wheat and corn. I waited for her to come.
After a while, many birds came to land, and I saw the water dish filled.

Out of boredom, on autumn nights, the dead busy themselves after the birds have gone, tidying up the graves. Have you ever visited a cemetery in autumn?

A fence around the cemetery? Are they afraid the dead might escape?

وأخرى في الغابة
قبل أن يموت الناس
يختارون المقبرة التي سيدفنون فيها
